British Film Institute (BFI)

The British Film Institute (BFI) is a UK cultural charity, National Lottery distributor, and the UK's lead organisation for film and the moving image, founded in 1933 and governed by Royal Charter. It maintains the BFI National Archive — one of the world's largest film and television archives — operates BFI Southbank and BFI IMAX cinemas in London, distributes films to over 800 UK venues annually, and funds UK film production, distribution, and education via National Lottery grants. The BFI also organises the BFI London Film Festival and BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, publishes the magazine Sight & Sound, and operates the BFI Player streaming service.
