About

augenschein Filmproduktion GmbH is a Cologne-based independent film production, financing, and sales company founded in 2008 by producers Jonas Katzenstein and Maximilian Leo. With a portfolio of over 30 director-driven feature films, the company is known for developing and producing high-quality, English-language films with global reach and commercial appeal — including 7500 (starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt), Stowaway (Anna Kendrick, Toni Collette), The Assessment (Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen), and the upcoming Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway, Michaela Coel) for A24. In 2021, the company launched augenschein Sales, an in-house worldwide sales and financing arm, and in 2024 sold a minority stake to Erfttal Film & Television Production, significantly expanding its financial capacity. Celebrated at Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, and Sundance, augenschein is a leading force in European independent cinema with an increasingly Hollywood-facing slate.
