AKT Pictures LLC is an American independent film and television production company founded in 2018 by Japanese-born filmmaker Akemi Kozu Tosto, based in the Los Angeles area (Sherman Oaks). The company develops and produces films and TV programs, specializing in international co-productions, with a focus on socially conscious, uplifting content; its slate includes the feature film 'When I Was a Human,' a Hollywood/Japan joint production. Akemi Kozu Tosto is notable as the first female filmmaker from Japan to have an original short film distributed by Shorts International, the official short film distributor of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the first filmmaker from Japan to raise capital on Wefunder for a film project.
