Tshiela is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works between Dallas, TX and Los Angeles, CA. Her artistic practice explores the esoteric and uncanny, investigating how visual languages shape meaning. She aims to alchemize the absurdity of the Black experience in the settler colonial project that is the U.S., by depicting Black bodies with a softness and illusiveness that resists distortion or erasure. Her work uses dream logic and embellishment to bring obscured stories into focus, while manifesting unusual ways towards unity; a future where skin isn’t border.
